As Christians, we firmly believe that every single life is valuable to God and that, as the lyrics from the old Christian song go, “They are precious in His sight.” Today, we are calling on you, as Australia’s Immigration Minister, to show the world that every human life is valuable in Australia’s sight, too.
We therefore ask you to accept an emergency intake of 20,000 Syrian refugees in addition to our current humanitarian program allocations, understanding that this is less than 0.4% of the people who have fled Syria and are seeking refuge.
We also call on you to grant $150 million to the United Nations to help them address this urgent global crisis.
We pray that you have the courage to lead a national response to the tragedy that is marked by compassion, generosity and a profound sense of the value of every single human life.
