THE GOOD REPORT
In our first year, we’ve been able to do this in several “rapid response campaigns” as issues arose in the Australian media that we felt compelled to respond to.
Some of the actions this included were our campaign that encouraged Christians to fight to Save Australian Aid; our campaign to stop the WA Government from “Hosing Away the Homeless” with sprinklers they had installed outside Perth’s Kings Street Arts Centre; and our celebration of the “Good Samaritan” who was assaulted after standing up for Muslim women who were abused on a Melbourne train, following which we encouraged Australian Christians to Go Love Likewise and make a public commitment to stand up for those who were being harassed.
Possibly one of the most rewarding ‘campaigns’ Common Grace was involved in this past year, though, was in forming a generous, Christian response during the Sydney Martin Place Siege in 2014. At a time where the Christian response had the potential to be unhelpful, we were able to consult with other groups in framing a response, pass on opportunities for great Christian leaders to speak to the media with a Christ-like tone, see the media promoting churches that were open for prayer and, most importantly, call for prayer.
HOPES & PLANS
Our Love Thy Neighbour Campaign is one area where we are most excited to see our work go forward and pray that funding allows it.
We have plans to partner with Louise Hope, a wonderful, generous-spirited Christian woman and a Sydney siege survivor around Harmony Day. Louisa is a compelling spokesperson who is passionate about calling Australian Christians to live without fear and with a genuine commitment to lovingly embracing others. We adore her and we know that you will too!
