Oh, Loving Creator and Heavenly Father,
Our earth is crying out; we are crying out; all is not well!
We live in a country of extremes, yet new extremities are stretching us to our limits.
Disasters so terrifying, they create their own weather.
Fires, floods, cyclones, heatwaves, droughts.
Cascading, compounding, concurrent.
These disasters have become an all-too-familiar list we rattle off as the consequences of polluting Your good world…
Until they hit us and our communities,
And the devastating, ugly reality of what we are causing stares us in the face.
We join with the groans of all creation, as we cry “Please, no more!”,
Yet we are warned that this is a mere taste of what is to come if we do not turn from our ways.
When it becomes difficult to see our humanity in each other,
Please let us not harden our hearts, block our ears, shut our eyes, close our hands.
Adjust our minds, our hearts, our souls, our senses.
Remind us that we are Your firstfruits; Christ’s love breaks through in us.
Show us Your good ways, light our path so that we may be
Little candles of light for others in this dark and uncertain world.
God of the empty, the overwhelmed, the broken, the whiplashed,
As our hearts ache with the loss and devastation, may we run
into Your arms, to seek shelter in Your embrace.
You are renewing, redeeming, reclaiming all of Your creation.
Send us out into Your beautiful, broken world
And amongst Your cherished to proclaim Your love until Christ’s return.
Amen
