On January 26 1938, Aboriginal leaders, including William Cooper, met for a Day of Mourning, seeking equality and full citizenship...it would take another 30 years! In 1940, William Cooper asked the Australian Church to set aside the Sunday before January 26 as Aboriginal Sunday, a day for Christians to act in solidarity with Aboriginal peoples.

80 years later, we are formalising our desire to see individual congregations reclaim William Cooper’s Aboriginal Sunday by asking your church to set aside 20 minutes in your service on Sunday January 19th.

We will provide your church with resources for a 20 minute segment in your service (a one hour version is also provided). These resources will be different to the National Prayer Services so please still remember to join us ecumenically at the Prayer Services.

If you would like to get your church involved, please sign up on this page so we can send you the resources.
