In our last teaching video in our 2024 ‘Surprising Hope’ series, Naomi Wolfe reflects on 2 Corinthians 4:16-28 and the eternal hope we have in Jesus.

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.  For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

2 Corinthians 4:16-28

Naomi Wolfe, trawlwoolway woman, program director at NAIITS, an Indigenous Learning Centre, and Aboriginal academic at Australian Catholic University, reflects on the challenges and struggles many of us have faced in the last few years, reminding us that we can find solace and strength in the eternal hope we have in Jesus. She reflects that this hope should act as a catalyst for us to demonstrate love into our communities and our world, in ways that will bridge divides and bring healing and transformation.

We invite you to pray and continue reflecting on Naomi Wolfe's reflection today.

Reflect:

How do we fix our eyes on the eternal hope we have in Jesus in the midst of suffering, struggle, disagreement, and despair?

What small actions can you take to point to the eternal hope we have in Jesus?

In what ways do you see this eternal hope reflected in the actions of your community?

Pray:

May you know how much God and creation love you, support you, and grow with you.

May you take the words of the Corinthians as encouragement to step out with small acts of hope.

May the eternal hope we have in Jesus bring you peace and start a ricochet effect of bringing peace to all of our communities and nations across our world.

May this eternal hope give you the encouragement to make small steps to step out with eternal hope and to spread the good news.

Amen.
