According to the map provided, the people or language group of my area is the Yuggera. According to Wikipedia, this is the origin of the word “yakka”, as in “hard yakka”. The name for my suburb, Coorparoo, comes from their name for a local creek, and was also apparently the name for the clan that frequented the area. I hope there are still members of that clan around, but I don’t know.
