Today, on January 26th, I acknowledge the Gadigal and Guringai peoples who are the Traditional Custodians of the land on which I live. I pay my respects to their elders past, present and future. On this day I recognise and acknowledge that colonisation brought immense change, and often harm, to the Aboriginal people who had inhabited this land long before settlers arrived, but that the Aboriginal peoples have a strong spirit of survival, having survived for over 60,000 years. I use today as an opportunity to reflect on the past, and remind myself of the importance of reconciliation, and of every one of us striving for a cohesive, respectful, inclusive, tolerant and fair society for all who now call Australia home.
