I also acknowledge that the Aboriginal peoples spirit, having thrived for over 60,000 years, is an integral part of the Australia we enjoy this Australia Day, and every day.

I understand this is in conflict with the thoughts of some who celebrate this day as the day this Nation was founded by white settlement. My acknowledgement of our Indigenous custodians of this land is simply my way of saying I am listening and accepting that the history of our country, has caused other’s pain. We mourn our ANZACS and have other Nationalistic commemorations, so I feel strongly that we should pay respect for those who owned this land first and the pain this history is still causing. I pray all would at least get to know our past and be open to understanding that its not all about our limited perceptions of what this day means to others.
