Prayer written for the upcoming 2025 Federal election by Meredith Walker-Harding
Loving God,
You hear the cries of the displaced, the persecuted, and the forgotten.
As a child, your Son was carried across borders, seeking safety from violence,
forced to trust in the kindness of strangers.
You know what it means to flee, to be unwelcome, to long for home.
We pray for all who are displaced—
for people forced from their homes by war, persecution, or disaster,
for those waiting in limbo, for families separated by borders,
for children growing up with no promise of a safe future.
God, we ask for compassion to lead the way—
in our hearts, in our communities, and in our nation.
We pray for leaders who see the humanity behind the headlines, and choose policies that reflect your justice, generosity, and hope.
We pray for bold action:
Increased humanitarian aid, especially for the people of Gaza,
A generous response to global crises,
A bigger heart as a nation—raising our humanitarian intake so more people can find safety on our shores,
Justice for those harmed by past policies—permanent protection, dignity restored, and a true chance to rebuild their lives,
An end to cruelty—no more indefinite detention, no more offshore suffering,
A lasting ceasefire in Gaza, so peace and healing can begin.
God, may we not look away.
Give us the courage to act,
to speak up for justice,
and to build a future where everyone can live the way you intended: safe, free, and flourishing.
Amen.
