Safe, Free and Flourishing

for the common good and our common home

__________

In the lead-up to the 2025 Federal Election, join with tens of thousands of people across our Common Grace movement in prayer and action to help move our nation towards the safe, free, and flourishing future that God intends.

It has been a tumultuous three years since our last federal election with the escalation of conflict and displacement across the world, living through the devastation of what has been the hottest year on record, rising cost of living pressures, and the defeat of the 2023 Voice Referendum closer to home. Following the recent American election, many people are concerned about the divisive tone of the national conversation that is likely to unfold leading up to the election, expected between March - May 2025.

In a time where the intersection between politics and the church seems so divisive and messy, Common Grace is calling together Christians everywhere to remember Jesus' call to love our fellow human beings without exception (Luke 10:25), to prioritise justice, mercy and faith over piety (Matthew 23:23), and to speak out against systems that hinder the flourishing and freedom God intends for all (Luke 4:18).

Amidst the weariness and scepticism that so many are feeling, we want to be a source of hope and a pointer to the way things could be and should be. Join us as we prepare our hearts and minds, praying for wisdom and discernment as we approach this coming election.

Join us this election as we pray and take action. Together we will speak out for justice for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander brothers and sisters, for our asylum-seeker friends looking for welcome on our shores, and for the protection and flourishing of God's beautiful creation. We will speak up for a nation, parliament, and policies that seek the good of others, and move us toward a broader vision for justice and a safe, free, flourishing future for all.

Take action in your community

In the lead up to the election, the Common Grace team will be holding a number of training workshops. These events will inspire and equip you to meet with your local candidates and call for just policy commitments.

Throughout March, Common Grace will be holding a number of face to face training workshops across the country. These will be moments for the Common Grace movement to gather, connect, be inspired and equipped to engage and connect with your federal candidates during and after the election.

Get Creative!

Safe, Free and Flourishing Postcards

Take creative action to share your vision and vote for a safe, free, and flourishing future for all! We’re inviting our movement to create postcards from clean, reused cardboard, featuring a word or simple image representing the safe, free, and flourishing future you’ll be voting for. On the back, write a short message to your MP and candidates, then share a photo of yourself holding your postcard on social media, tagging your current MP and all candidates in your electorate, as well as @commongraceaus.

Find out more and share about your action here.

Knit for Climate Action

We’re also gearing up to gift a Common Grace Knit for Climate Action scarf to all newly elected Members of Parliament and Senators from the 2025 election. Put your creative skills into action and knit a climate scarf to be gifted to our nation’s leaders after they take office.

Find out more and sign up for our climate scarf knitting pattern here.

Join us in prayer

Common Grace will be holding an online Election Prayer Vigil in the lead up to the federal election. Join us as we commit this election to prayer, asking God to guide us with wisdom, give us courage to act and help us follow Jesus’ call to love our neighbours as we engage and vote in the 2025 Election. Prayer Vigil date will be announced once an election date is formally called.

We invite you to commit this election to prayer over the coming weeks. Explore prayers previously shared by the Common Grace movement - 'Prayer to love our neighbours this election' written by Leonnie Wickenden from Love Makes A Way, shared at the Common Grace 2022 election prayer vigil; prayer for creation and climate justice written by Dr Mick Pope for #ShowYourStripes Day 2021; and Uncle Pastor Ray Minniecon’s ‘Redfern Prayer’
