By submitting, you may receive occasional updates from Common Grace, in accordance with our privacy policy.

On January 26, we invite you to share an Acknowledgement of Country to join together in recognising today as a day of survival and mourning for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and commit to walking softly and gently upon these lands in the invitation of friendship and reconciliation, towards justice, healing and flourishing for all.

Commit to taking a stand for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander justice by sharing a photo of your feet on Country, or a symbol of a heart, alongside an Acknowledgement of Country on social media. Talk about it with whoever you meet on the day and invite others to take part.

This year, we are inviting our Common Grace movement to share a photo of a heart - your hands making a heart symbol or your coloured in heart graphic designed by Safina Stewart - as a call for a safe, free and flourishing future for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

These heart graphics have been used as part of an advocacy action churches have taken in marking Aboriginal Sunday in 2026, calling together for a safe, free and flourishing future for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children to be loved, not locked up. Learn more about calls to #RaiseTheAge here.

How do I take my photo?

We encourage you to take off your shoes and head outside to take a photo of your feet on the land you live on, or a photo of your heart symbol/graphic. If you're using your phone to take the photo, landscape orientation will work best (though you'll also be able to rotate it before posting). If you want you can also take a photo with a few people, and share it together. Then, write your Acknowledgment of Country (or use the one we provide), add it to this website then share it on your social media, tagging us @commongraceaus.

“For me a proud Australian recognises how my pride stops my ears from hearing or my eyes from seeing the pain of others. The injustice of disproportionate incarceration has on origin story. Today I listen to the pain and pride of the people who lived on Kaurna country long before my people assumed ownership of it. I acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which I stand and their faithful stewardship since time immemorial. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and commit myself to walking together in love, friendship and solidarity – listening deeply, seeking healing and justice, and working toward a safe, free and flourishing future for all.”
