Election 2019 Church Billboard Campaign - Week 2

“Fear not” is a phrase we hear from our loving God throughout the old and new testaments. Election campaigns are often built on messages of fear: fear that we will lose something; fear that justice will not be carried out; fear that something we think we need will be given to someone else. Messages which stem from fear are rooted in a belief system of deprivation. Deprivation tells us: there is not enough; we will miss out; we will not be ok. The good news of Jesus stands in stark contrast to this. The teachings of Jesus and the risen Christ whom we encounter in the gospels, speak to us of abundance. Abundance is not to be confused with greed or irresponsible stewardship. In Jesus’ life, death and resurrection we encounter true abundance: we are loved; we are equal; we are saved through his grace and mercy; we are provided for; all will be well. Jesus lovingly invites us to be part of God’s Kingdom, living lives of generosity, peace, beauty, love and justice.

Our sign for this week reflects the good news of Jesus: we need not fear! Jesus has come to give us abundant life! This is the truly good news that everyone needs. As we encounter the security we have through God’s love, we are also charged with responsibility to live in a way that is not driven by fear.

This week let’s pray: Loving God, it is so easy to be driven by fear. We fear that we will not have enough. We fear for the wellbeing of ourselves, our families and our community. You have shown us the way of true life. Thank you for the love and hope you have given us, which is the same today as it was in the beginning of time. Your promises and goodness are unwavering. May we be free from fear and remember the truth of your salvation. Amen.

Our prayer is that these materials are useful to your church community as you prepare for the Federal election.

We’d love you to send us a photo of your church using the sign for us to share on social media - to info@common grace.org.au.
