Election 2019 Church Billboard Campaign - Week 4

Many people seem to expect that politicians lie and have come to accept the way that our leaders generalise and demonise groups as they present their positions. It is too easy for this to become our norm and what we expect of our politicians and our public debate. Jesus calls us to a different ethic however. As we have been reflecting so far in this election campaign, Jesus is interested in our politics and cares about justice for the marginalised. He invites us to live (and vote) not from a place of fearing others, but of wisdom informed by empathy, love and respect for our neighbours.

Our sign for this week reminds us of the importance of representing the ethic which Jesus teaches us. As Christians in our world, we are challenged to stand up for and live out the values of Jesus: truth, grace, justice and compassion.

This week let’s pray: God of love, mercy, justice and compassion. Thank you for the privilege we have to take part in public debate and a democratic process. We admit that it is easy to get used to methods of political discussion which don’t reflect your heart. Jesus, you came to bring us life and teach us how to love. Help us to live out these values in our politics and elect those who best reflect your heart, values and vision for our society. In Jesus’ name, Amen

Our prayer is that these materials are useful to your church community as you prepare for the Federal election.

We’d love you to send us a photo of your church using the sign for us to share on social media - to info@common grace.org.au.
