Just wanted to share an interesting detail with you. When the British colonist settled there were many laws already set in place that prevented them from occupying another “country” that had already been settled. This is why they called the Original inhabitants, Ab-orginals (ab = not). Ever since then, they have ad NO LEGAL RIGHTS. Even when they gain some rights, ie right to vote in 1968. They still were called Aboriginals; thus removing any claim to their lands. This label adopted by the indigenous people themselves is damaging, especially in a legal document. No a stickler, but just wanted to share that with everybody. Having a better understanding of how legalese (or proper meaning of terms) is an important part to reconciliation. If we are to truly recognise them, we must stop calling them the non original inhabitants of this land.
