Election 2019 Church Billboard Campaign - Week 5

We’re on the home stretch of the 2019 Federal Election Campaign. Over the last 5 weeks we have heard a multitude of messages in the media from various parties, all clamouring to present their view and win our vote. Included in these are different views from across the Christian church with differing ideas about what it means to live “Christian values”. As we acknowledge the diversity of views within the church we are confronted with the probability that no one political party perfectly represents Jesus and justice. As followers of Jesus, we are called to hold firm to what we know of Jesus and his teaching, and do our best to work out how to vote based on these things. (TIP: we've compiled various resources from across the church to help you do just that!)

Our sign for this week reflects on what we believe is important to bring into view as we vote as Christians: listening to Jesus’ teachings and pursuing His justice in our world. Beyond polling day, valuing Jesus and justice calls us to engage in politics in a broader sense. How do you see issues of justice in your world? How can you constantly reflect the good news of Jesus to live generously, empathically and stand for truth, compassion and dignity? We have been given the gift of abundant life and we are called to live out this good news!

This week let’s pray: Loving God, as we approach election day, we acknowledge that our human systems and understanding of you are flawed. We cannot fully know you, yet you have shown us yourself through Jesus and his teaching. Give us courage and clarity to continue to live out your love beyond election day. Help us to truly love others and be your voice in this world. Amen

Our prayer is that these materials are useful to your church community as you prepare for the Federal election.

We’d love you to send us a photo of your church using the sign for us to share on social media - to info@common grace.org.au
