Stand in solidarity on January 26th and participate in Aboriginal rallies and gatherings to mark this Day of Mourning, Survival Day, Invasion Day.

There are multiple ways to join together with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across these lands now called Australia as we mark January 26th as a Day of Mourning, Survival Day, Invasion Day. We are listing a number of events below as a digest of events.  

Please follow the instructions of Aboriginal Leaders to stay COVID safe as you participate.
Bring - a face mask, hand sanitiser, water, sunscreen, and hat
Maintain - social distancing
Don't come - if you feel sick, are required to self isolate, or have been in contact with COVID-19 in anyway
Make sure - to register your attendance if applicable and if advertised

Yabun Festival is an annual celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures held on the 26th of January in Sydney.

On Jan 26th, Yabun returns. This year, experience Corroboree Ground, the Yabun Stage and Speak Out from the comfort of your own home - we’ll be streaming to most digital platforms from 11am - 5pm.

Annual Survival Day Ceremony, from Brisbane

All Australians are invited to participate in the online Benarrawa Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Solidarity Group’s local acknowledgement of Survival Day, January 26, 2021, for a short ceremony at the waters of the Benarrawa (Oxley Creek). On this day we celebrate the survival of the first peoples of this country, especially the people who lived, gathered, raised their families and cared for the waters and lands along the banks of the Brisbane River and Benarrawa (Oxley Creek).

Wearing pride and flying our flags whilst, holding up signs with our messages. Silently march from Civic Park Newcastle, reflecting on all and who that we mourn from the last 250 years to a ceremony at Nobby's beach where we will come together to heal the now and cross the road to Nobbys foreshore park to come together and celebrate who we are and move forward whilst enjoying some cultural activities and launch Owen Craigies soup kitchen for Mental Health Awareness.

Come along to Cameo Cinema, the place where BSD was first held 14 years ago, for an exclusive pre-screening of High Ground. We still want to gather, and even though we aren't able to run the full-scale event this year, we are running this wonderful fundraiser and preparing for our 15 year anniversary in 2022. There will be a didge performance by Uncle Gnarnayarrahe Waitairie at 6:30pm before the screening. We hope to see you there!

Free event by Chris Saunders. We ask that all of our community join us in resistance of Jan 26th on the stolen lands of Gunditjmara people and the site of Victoria’s first Massacre.
ON THE DAY: We will be holding two different smoking ceremonies.
THE FIRST, will start at 9am and will be conducted at the site of the Convincing Ground Massacre, I will post a map location on the event in the next coming of days. the site of this smoking ceremony will be not accessible for those who have difficulty with mobility. It’s suggested that you instead come to the second event so you don’t miss out.
THE SECOND, will start at 11am and be conducted at the site of the first lands ploughed on Gunditjmara country, there’s a monument to signify this across from Portland Hospital. A map location will also be provided.
It would be good if all in attendance can bring an arrangement of Native plants to lay at both these sites acknowledging the past and ancestors.

6:00am - 6:30am, Dawn Service providing a traditional Welcome to Country, smoking ceremony and guest speakers sharing their knowledge and histories of Survival Day. Following the official ceremonies and sharing, join us for a free breakfast! 
10:00am, Strand amphitheater for a Traditional Dance by the Wulgurukaba Walkabout Dancers, who will then lead The Walk in silence and solidarity in the commemoration for those we have lost, heading down to Strand Park. Event by Big Eye Theatre and Lindilooz Art Gallery
11:00am, Survival Day events and activities will kick off at Strand Park from 11am with an Official Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony.
