Join us as we celebrate, advocate, and care for God's beautiful creation

Every year from 1 September to 4 October, Christians around the world set aside five weeks to celebrate God's beautiful creation and renew our calling to care for it. Known as Season of Creation (or Creationtide in some traditions), it is a time of prayer, worship, reflection, and action as we give thanks for the gift of creation and respond to God's invitation to seek its flourishing.

As our world experiences a growing climate crisis, Season of Creation offers an opportunity to slow down, reconnect with God's creation, and consider what it means to faithfully follow Jesus in this moment. It invites us to celebrate the beauty of the natural world, lament what is being lost, and join God's work of restoration, justice, and hope.

Although Season of Creation is a relatively recent addition to the Church calendar, it has deep ecumenical roots. It began in 1989 when the Eastern Orthodox Church established 1 September as a Day of Prayer for Creation. Australian theologian Rev Dr Norm Habel AM then played a pioneering role in developing a dedicated Season of Creation for churches in the early 2000s, helping inspire what has since become a global movement. Today, Christians from many traditions—including Orthodox, Catholic, Anglican, Protestant, and Pentecostal churches—celebrate Season of Creation together, concluding on 4 October, the Feast of St Francis of Assisi.

Since 2018, Common Grace has joined thousands of Christians and churches across Australia in marking Season of Creation through resources, events, prayer, and advocacy. Each year we create practical resources to help individuals, churches, and small groups celebrate God's creation, deepen their discipleship, and take meaningful action for creation and climate justice.

Whether you're discovering Season of Creation for the first time or returning again this year, we hope these resources encourage you to pray, learn, reflect, and act—joining Christians across Australia and around the world as we seek the flourishing of all God's creation.
