Why did you Walk for Reconciliation in the year 2000?

I was 6 years old at the time, my family of Sri Lankan born Australian citizens didn't know about the Walk for Reconciliation in the year 2000.

What has changed in the last 20 years and what are you presently doing for Reconciliation?

I was in Primary School being taught that Captain Cook discovered Australia, and that's as much as my migrant family knew, too. Presently, I am committed to seeking the truth of the past and how that shapes the present and future.

What is your vision of Reconciliation for the next 20 years?

Where our newest and oldest migrants can learn from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples about the truth of their nations' stories, and where the power imbalance is being addressed through representation in leadership and a commitment to racial literacy and cultural intelligence education across all sectors.
